It was a slim victory for Senator Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State Monday night as he clinched the governorship position. He defeated the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Mohammed Isa Ashiru with about 10,000 votes.
The PDP had swept the Kaduna votes during the presidential poll some three weeks ago and won all the available three senatorial seats for the state.
Declaring the governorship poll result, the state collation officer, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, said Sani polled 730,002 votes, while Ashiru of the PDP scored a total of 719,196 votes.
He put the number of registered voters at 4,335,208, accredited voters, 1,581,662, valid votes cast, 1,546,747 and invalid votes, 19,114 . He said a total of 1,565,861 votes were cast in the election.
He said, “Senator Uba Sani having scored the highest number of valid votes and met the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
The PDP agent at the collation centrem Danjuma Sarki, refused to sign the result.
