There is tension in Maiduguri as the city’s Monday Market, the biggest in Borno State, is on fire.
The fire started around 2am on Sunday and has spread to different parts of the market, according to a Daily Trust’s report.
Collosal losses are feared to have been recorded in the inferno.
The market is said to receive goods from Kano, Lagos and other parts of the country as well as outside Nigeria.
It was learnt that efforts to put out the fire by the state fire service yielded no positive result.
The fire continued to rage for hours, destroying the largest part of the market.
Hoodlums were spotted looting from the goods that were saved from the raging fire.
Banks operating in the market area were also affected.
