UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, has revealed that he broke his right hand three weeks before defeating arch-rival, Colby Covington, at UFC 268 earlier this month.
Usman defeated Covington via unanimous decision after five rounds at the Madison Square Garden in New York to retain his welterweight title for the fifth time and his second win over the American.
“I broke it (right hand) before the fight,” Usman said. “Most people didn’t know that. I broke it three weeks before and I didn’t throw it a day until the fight itself.”

“I didn’t throw it until right backstage,” he added. “I didn’t throw my hands for three weeks, my right hand.”
The ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ disclosed that he injured the hand while training with teammate Justin Gaethje.
“I broke it on someone’s head,” Usman said. “Justin Gaethje’s head. We spar together. Same coach, main training partners-slash-big brother, little brother-slash-two assassins in the same place. He gets the better of me sometimes. Justin Gaethje’s a savage.”
Usman breezed through the fight against Covington with a superiority display despite his injury as he once again made a case why he’s being ranked as the UFC’s best pound-for-pound fighter.
