I have no regrets over construction of judges’ quarters — Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that he remains resolute amidst criticism surrounding the judges’ quarters construction project.
Wike expressed his stance in Abuja during an inspection tour of the project site and its connecting road in Katampe.
Recall that in September, the minister initiated the construction of 40 houses for judges in Abuja, sparking widespread public outcry.
He explained that 20 houses would be allocated to FCT High Court judges, 10 to Federal High Court judges, and 10 to Court of Appeal judges.
The minister faced intense criticism, with many Nigerians perceiving the project as an attempt to influence the judiciary for political gain.
Wike had also denied these claims, stating that the project is part of President Bola Tinubu’s welfare packages to promote judicial independence.

Reacting to criticism, Wike stated that he owes no explanation, citing provisional approval and National Assembly backing.
“Once you have a provisional approval to go ahead and the backing of the National Assembly, what’s my business with those who are criticising?, the minister asked.
Wike dismissed his critics, saying they cannot achieve anything even when given the opportunity.
He emphasized that providing a conducive environment for judges and justices is essential.
“Now we are trying to provide an environment that will make them work well. They are saying oh! And given another reason. Don’t bother yourself, just move on and do your work.”
Wike expressed indifference to criticism, stating it holds no significance for him.
The minister drew motivation from residents’ appreciation, noting the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is successfully executing multiple projects.
Wike commended the contractors for maintaining high standards throughout the projects.
