Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abiodun Aikomo, on Tuesday opposed a bail application of three defendants held in connection with the tragic stampede at the Islamic High School, Ibadan.

The defendants are Queen Naomi Shilekunola Ogunseyi, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife; popular radio broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, and school principal, Abdullai Fasasi.

The tragic incident has attracted significant public attention due to the loss of 35 lives and numerous injuries sustained during an overcrowded funfair event in late 2024.

During the hearing on Tuesday at the Oyo State High Court, the defence team argued for bail, saying the accused posed no flight risk and were fully committed to cooperating with the investigation team.

But Barrister Aikomo strongly opposed the bail, emphasising the severity of the charges and the importance of ensuring justice for the victims.

Justice Kamarudeen Olawoyin fixed February 13 for ruling on the bail application.
