Ido-Ayegunle Killings: Monarch Confirms Arrest of Four Suspects

The Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle in Osun State, Oba Timileyin Ajayi, has confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to the killing of villagers in the agrarian community, describing the development as a critical step toward justice.

The monarch made the disclosure in a statement on Monday, saying security agencies had apprehended those allegedly responsible for the deadly attack that rocked the community in June 2025.

“I want the world to know that we have arrested the people behind the killing,” Oba Ajayi said.

He revealed that an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo had ordered the four suspects to be remanded at the Ilesha Correctional Centre for 30 days over alleged murder.

According to the traditional ruler, the remand order followed a request by the police, who told the court that investigations into the case were still ongoing. The ruling was made by Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Oba Ajayi recalled that on June 15, 2025, the suspects, alongside others still at large, allegedly carried out coordinated attacks on Ido-Ayegunle, leading to the death of several residents. He said the assailants were armed and unleashed violence that left the community in mourning.

Describing Ido-Ayegunle as a land “bleeding” from the loss of innocent lives, the monarch lamented that the victims included fathers and young people who should have been protected.

“Innocent life has been taken in Ido-Ayegunle—fathers, youths and people who deserve protection, not death. The killings have brought fear, grief and unanswered questions into my land,” he said.

The traditional ruler stressed that the community was not seeking revenge but justice, calling for a thorough investigation, accountability for all those involved, and lasting security for residents.

“We are not asking for revenge. We are asking for justice. Justice means a proper investigation. Justice means accountability for those responsible. Justice means assurance that our community can sleep without fear,” Oba Ajayi said.

He also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest other suspects still at large and ensure that peace is fully restored to Ido-Ayegunle and neighbouring communities.
