Igangan thanks Sunday Igboho for intervention against criminal herders

The Igangan community in Oyo State has expressed gratitude to Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, for saving the community and the Ibarapa people from the criminal herdsmen.

The community also lauded Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Adamu; and the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko.

Chairman of the Igangan Community Council, Mr Segun Okedeji and President, Igangan Development Advocates, Mr Wale Oladokun, said in a statement on Wednesday that the heroic struggle led by Igboho had brought respite to the people.

Residents of the community were constantly terrorised by herdsmen, making them to live in perpetual fear.

But the confrontation by Igboho with the Seriki Fulani in the area, Salihu Abdukadir, drew attention to the plights of the people which had led to a concrete promise by the authorities to improve the security in the area.

The statement read, “We, the entire people of Igangan community in the Ibarapa North-West Local Council Development Authority, in conjunction with the chiefs and the entire youths of Igangan under the umbrella of the Igangan Development Advocates, wish to express our unalloyed appreciation to Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Igboho for his historic and heroic action towards restoring peace in Igangan and Ibarapa land.

“We equally want to express our hearty gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, who was ably represented by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko, at the recently concluded security meeting in Igangan, which was aimed at engendering peace in the much troubled Ibarapa zone.”

Meanwhile, the Yoruba Youth Socio-Cultural Association Worldwide has cautioned Igboho against talking too much and allowing people to troop to his residence.

The President of YYSA, Mr Olalekan Hammed, who said this in a statement, noted that his word might be used to trap him, adding that not all those who flocked around him were his friends.
