IGP reassigns 11,566 police officers from VIP duties to Rural, high-risk areas nationwide
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the redeployment of 11,566 police personnel previously assigned to VIP security duties to underserved and high-risk communities across Nigeria.
Speaking on Thursday at a meeting with Police Strategic Commanders in Abuja, Egbetokun said all officers affected by the previous withdrawal directive have reported back and have now been reassigned to strengthen community policing and internal security operations.

The IGP emphasized that the redeployment aims to boost security presence in rural areas, improve response time, deepen community engagement, and support ongoing operations against criminal networks nationwide.
“This strategic move is part of our broader reforms to ensure equitable manpower distribution and enhance public safety,” Egbetokun said, reiterating the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professional and effective service delivery.
He assured Nigerians that additional reforms are underway to reposition the police, improve accountability, and foster stronger collaboration between law enforcement and citizens.
