Security personnel and officers immediately restrained and arrested the attacker, who was booked into Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of third-degree assault. Despite the attack, Omar was not physically injured and continued the town hall for about 25 minutes. Following the event, she posted on social media: “I’m OK. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work,” thanking supporters for their messages of solidarity.
The incident drew swift condemnation from political leaders. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the attack “unacceptable”, emphasizing that violence has no place in public discourse.
