I’m alive, says Yakubu Gowon, after death rumour
General Yakubu Gowon has dismissed the rumour that he is dead, saying, “I am still around and well. I am not in a hurry.”
This was disclosed on Monday through his personal aide, Adeyeye E. Ajayi.
The retired Army General also reportedly spoke personally to Vanguard over the telephone on the issue.
Gowon refuted the claims stating that he is alive and in good health.
There were speculations on Monday in a section of the social media that the General passed on at the age of 89.
The speculations had emerged after a man with the name Gowon, Prof. Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Niger Delta University in Bayelsa State, died on Saturday.
