Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has said he is prepared to honour any invitation by anti-graft agency when his tenure ends on May 29.
He said he had no plans to run away from Nigeria for fear of arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Wike said this while answering questions during his appearance Monday on Channels Television breakfast programme, SUNRISE.
He was reacting to recent revelations by Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, that the anti-graft agency would embark on arrest of corrupt governors whose tenure would expire on May 29 immediately they leave office.
Nigerian governors accused of corruption cannot be arrested while in office because they enjoy immunity.
But Wike, who is suspected to be one of the governors under the radar of the EFCC, said he was not bothered by the threat of the anti-graft agency to arrest governors after their exit from office l.
He said he would not run away from Nigeria days before the inauguration of his successor as some ex-governors had done in the past.
Wike said he would be part of the handover ceremony and honour the invitation of EFCC if invited.
“I’m not going to run away because of EFCC. Why should they invite me? If they invite me, I will honour their invitation. I will not run away,” Wike said.
