Immigration officer killed over land dispute in Niger
An immigration officer Isah Mohammed, has been killed in an attack linked to a long-standing land dispute between two communities in Niger State.
The incident occurred on his farm, where he was assaulted by individuals believed to be from the neighbouring Kupafu community.
Residents said that the conflict between the Doko and Kupafu communities in Lavun Local Government Area has been unresolved for years.
State police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the attack, which took place on August 14, 2024, around 11:30 AM.

According to Abiodun, Mohammed was assaulted by what are described as irate youths from Kupafu over the ongoing land dispute.
The officer lost consciousness and was later taken to Umaru Sanda Ndayako General Hospital in Bida, where he was pronounced dead.
The police have launched an investigation to apprehend those responsible for the attack and to ensure justice is served.
A local community member has called on both the police and state government to address the situation urgently to prevent further escalation.
