The Imo State House of Assembly has impeached its Speaker, Chiji Collins.
This came with the suspension a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Victor Aleke, representing Ebonyi North West Constituency, by the Assembly over alleged misconduct.
Collins was impeached during a plenary on Friday.
The motion for his impeachment was supported by 19 out of 27 lawmakers of the assembly present at the plenary.
He was accused of financial impropriety, high handedness and other forms of gross misconduct.
In Ebonyi, Aleke was reportedly suspended after a motion of urgent public importance was moved by the house leader, Victor Chukwu.
An attempt to also suspend the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Mr Clement Odah, did not however go through as the matter was stood down.
Odah was reportedly indicted by an ad hoc committee set up by the House to investigate the financial activities of Ohaukwu council.
Aleke was not present at the chamber when he was suspended.
Aleke was said to have refused to join the state governor Dave Umahi to the All Progressives Congress.
But the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Arinze Chukwu-Lucas, said the suspension had nothing to do with the governor’s defection.
