‘Improved security’: Defence HQ commends man who trekked 16 days from Gombe to Abuja
Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has reassured the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian military to ensuring maximum security in the country.
This affirmation came during his meeting with Mallam Suleiman Rabiu, a 29-year-old driver from Gombe State, who walked over 700km to express gratitude for Gen. Musa’s leadership.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Acting Director of Defence Information, and other officials received Rabiu on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff. They commended his gesture, emphasizing that the Armed Forces, led by Gen. Musa, is people-centric and dedicated to upholding democracy and the President’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Despite challenging weather conditions, Mallam Suleiman embarked on his journey on February 12, 2024, reaching Abuja on February 28, 2024, after 16 days on the road. His motivation was to showcase appreciation for the admirable leadership qualities of the Chief of Defence Staff.
“According to him, security of lives and property has greatly improved since the assumption of office by General CG Musa. He added that the people – Centric philosophy of leadership of the CDS was what motivated him to identify with Armed Forces Chief.”
Rabiu according to the statement, said he braced all odds to start the journey to Abuja to appreciate and commend the CDS for the excellent and exemplary leadership leading to successes recorded in various theaters of operation across the country.
“He maintained that his action is a testimony to the improved security enjoyed in the country,” adding that “before now, it was almost impossible to have embarked on such a journey without encountering any hazard occasioned by insecurity in the North East,” the statement indicated.
