INEC insists on deploying Navy, Army, Air Force for 2023 polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has reiterated its resolve to deploy the services of three armed services – the army, navy and air force, in the conduct of next year’s general elections.

It also disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force, the lead agency in election security, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) will also be drafted as members for the crucial polls, in pursuant of their statutory responsibilities for the clearance and release of materials at seaports and other entry points into the country.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made the disclosure in his address at the inauguration of Electoral Logistics Committee (ELOC) in Abuja on Friday.

Apparently referring to the 2019 general elections, when it postponed the presidential election due to logistics, the commission promised that it would not happen again.

“I must say from the outset that this committee is distinct from the commission’s Electoral Operations and Logistics Committee (EOLC), which is a standing committee chaired by a National Commissioner. Rather, ELOC is an inter-agency committee established close to a general election for a specific objective only. It is therefore ad hoc in nature,” he cleared.

He further explained that; “the establishment of the committee is borne out of the commission’s effort to ensure the speedy and safe delivery of huge quantities of sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the 2023 general election. The logistics for the clearance, handling, custody, delivery and distribution of enormous quantities of election materials is the biggest operation Nigeria undertakes every four years.

When would Nigeria experience a peaceful political atmosphere without security agencies on election days?
If in over 23 years of Democracy in Nigeria Election still unfolds an Undemocratic Characteristics of WAR where NAVY, ARMY, AIR FORCE & other security agencies would always present on election days, This obviously a confirmation that Democracy had FAILED in Nigeria.
Election is Purely a CIVIL MATTER NOT A WAR while the Global attention on the way Government at all level in Nigeria MILITARISED elections are direct assault to Civil right because its questioned the Nonviolence spirit of Democratic Culture as well as rendered the outcome of election Globally UNACCEPTABLE because FREE, FAIR & CREDIBLE ELECTION can only be acceptable in an atmosphere of total Tranquility.
The deploying NAVY, ARMY, AIR FORCES & OTHER SECURITY AGENCIES on election days had systematically become NOTHING NEW in Nigeria which are cleared manifestation that DEMOCRACY HAD FAILED TOTALLY because if Political and Democratic orientation foster Democratic development in Nigeria there will be No Need for MILITARISED ELECTIONS but The Barbaric Political Culture and its Selfish and Unpatriotic political mentality which turned Politics to BUSINESS AFFAIRS and only means to be questionably wealthy hindered Democratic development.
Therefore the PERENNIAL ISSUE OF VOTE BUYING & VOTE SELLING and TRADITIONAL ISSUES OF DESPERATE TO WIN AN ELETION AT ALL COST had Turned AN ELECTION TO WAR while at the end of the day where People are killed properties destroyed NOTHING NEW however If democracy is truly developing by now all these should have reduced or even end but instead its keep increasing which mean democracy had FAILED.
