Nigeria voter's card
A total of 87,209,007 permanent voter cards (PVC) have been collected across the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated.
Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the national collation centre in Abuja.
A breakdown of the figure showed that Lagos leads in the collected PVCs with 6,214,970.
This is closely followed by Kano with 5,594,193, and Kaduna with 4,164, 473.
According to Yakubu, the current voter register contains over 94 million names, but adds that the commission will continue to clean it up with technology going forward.
The INEC chairman further revealed that 1,642,385 polling units and collation centre agents of political parties would participate in the elections.
He also disclosed that the commission had fully recovered from the recent attacks on her facilities in some states.
He said INEC would closely monitor the conduct of staff and will sanction anyone who compromises the process.
Yakubu also expressed the commission’s satisfaction with the performance of the BVAS after the conduct of a mock accreditation a few weeks earlier.
He said that backup technicians for the BVAS had been deployed for the elections.
Yakubu said the daily briefing was to update stakeholders as events unfold ahead of the elections.
