Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have foiled attempts by some persons to begin the production of locally-made rifles and pistols in Abuja.

A statement by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said the NSCDC Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation put the suspects under Surveillance and Monitoring and were able to apprehend them.

The statement reads: “Acting on a tip-off that a group of individuals were manufacturing semi-automatic rifles and pistols at Moshood Abiola National Stadium area in Abuja, the Directorate acted swiftly and arrested seven suspects. They are Amos Iyawo (29), Jonah Mannaseh (27), Ezekiel Nannim (20), Naifa Pando (F, 26), Euphemia Peter (26), Faith Gadang (F) and Philemon Karam (F, 26).

“Their confessional statements identified Iyawo as the team leader and who recruited others. He also said none of the rifles or pistols have been sold as production just began.

“One of the suspects also confessed that he found the locally made pistol while on operations with the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) at Durumi in Abuja.”
