IPPIS irregularities: FG stops 2,000 workers’ November salaries

Over 2,000 federal officials working in Federal Government ministries, departments, and agencies have had their salaries withheld, sources familiar with the situation told our correspondent on Monday.

According to a senior government servant at the Federal Ministry of Defence, who talked to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity due to Public Service Rules that prohibit civil officials from communicating to the press, the majority of employees in the ministry had not received their paychecks.

The civil worker further mentioned that the delay could be related to the recent verification undertaken by the Office of the Federation’s Head of Civil Service.

Another senior civil servant in a top federal government agency explained to our correspondent that a certain percentage of civil servants had their salaries withheld owing to discrepancies on the platform of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

“About 2,000 civil servants are actually involved and it’s due to failed verification on the IPPIS,” he said,

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, said, “Salaries started dropping on Thursday last week. It’s not all civil servants. When I get the position of the director of IPPIS, I will get across to you.”

The National President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants, Tommy Etim, told our correspondent that the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation had already started working on the issues.
