Israeli Forces Kill Dozens Near Gaza Border Crossing
Israeli troops opened fire on Sunday near the Zikim border crossing in northern Gaza, killing and injuring dozens of Palestinians.
Over 60 people were killed after large crowds gathered near the crossing where humanitarian aid trucks regularly enter the enclave, the New York Times reported, citing Gaza health officials and hospital sources.
The Gaza Health Ministry said Mohammad Abu Selmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, confirmed the death toll.
According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, its field hospital in the north was overwhelmed with gunshot victims, reporting more than 100 wounded and at least two dead, according to spokesperson Nebal Farsakh.
In a statement on Sunday, the Israeli military said its troops fired “warning shots” at thousands of people who had assembled in the area and claimed soldiers responded to “an immediate threat.”

It also noted that casualty figures reported by Gaza health authorities did not match its initial assessment of the incident.
The shooting occurred a day after Israeli forces reportedly killed at least 32 Palestinians near a humanitarian aid site in southern Gaza, run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation—an Israeli-backed group criticized for its operations in the territory.
According to the New York Times, witnesses said soldiers fired on crowds of civilians attempting to access food and supplies.
The latest violence comes amid growing desperation in Gaza, where hunger is widespread and clashes have erupted frequently at aid distribution points.
On Sunday, Israel also issued evacuation orders for parts of central Deir al-Balah, one of the few areas not yet targeted by major ground operations during its ongoing campaign against Hamas.
