Jos jail breaker nabbed for abducting seven UNIJOS students

The police in Jos have arrested a suspect, Salisu Adamu, for the abduction of seven students of University of Jos (UNIJOS) on June 12, 2023. Adamu, of Minta village in Bassa Local Council of Plateau,was involved inJos prison jailbreak that occurred in 2020.

Parading the suspect at the Police Headquarters in Jos, yesterday, the state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Okoro Julius Alawari, said the abducted students have been freed.

Alawari said the suspect has confessed to the crime, and mentioned some of his gang members who are currently on the run, assuring that efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing suspects.

The police boss said a report was received at the Anglo-Jos Police Station that one Fredrick Cirman of Zarmaganda area of Jos South had a misunderstanding with his friend, one Ajang Julius, where the suspect stabbed him on the chest with a knife.

According to him, “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Anglo-Jos Division, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bethel Obara, immediately led a team of police officers to arrest the suspect.

“The victim was immediately rushed to the Plateau Specialist Hospital for medical attention, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

In another incident, Alawari said the police received a report at the Jengre Police Division on August 9 that one Jummai Emmanuel of Miango area of Bassa Local Council chartered a driver, Safiyanu Sulaiman, to convey her goods from Saminaka market in Kaduna State to Jos.

“While they were travelling along Fuska Mata Forest, the driver pretended that the car developed a mechanical fault, but when he noticed that the passenger was calling another driver, he violently hit the victim with a log of wood on the head and she died on the spot,” he said.

ALSO, the police paraded 28 suspects for various offences, including unlawful possession of locally fabricated revolver pistol, illicit drugs, culpable homicide, vandalisation of Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) property, theft of armoured cables and defilement.

The CP said four-year-old and eight-year-old girls, who were playing in the house of a neighbour, were deceived and defiled by one John Mahana, 63.

According to him, one Fredrick Embrakumor attached to 3 Division Garrison of the Nigeria Army, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, on operation at Maiduguri, Borno State, was also arrested for conspiracy and extortion of unsuspecting members of the public.
