Just in: 3 senators, 4 Reps dump PDP for APC

Four senators and three House of Representatives members have defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the senators’ resignation letters during Wednesday’s plenary session.
The lawmakers cited irreconcilable differences within the PDP as their reason for leaving.
Akpabio directed the Senate Clerk to formally document their defections.

The move has changed the balance of power in the Senate, with APC now holding 70 seats compared to PDP’s 28. Other parties in the chamber include the Labour Party with 5 seats, NNPP with 1, SDP with 2, and APGA with 1.
In the House of Representatives, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced the defection of three PDP members to the APC during Wednesday’s sitting.

The defectors – two from Osun State and one from Edo State – similarly blamed their decision on the deepening crisis in PDP’s national leadership.

All the defecting lawmakers said that the ongoing internal conflicts within the PDP forced their decision to cross over to the APC.
