Just in: Akpabio denies DSS invasion of N’Assembly over alleged impeachment plot
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has debunked claims that the Department of State Services (DSS) has taken control of the national assembly complex.
These reports alleged the DSS’ presence was to prevent an impending impeachment process against Akpabio.
However, Akpabio described these claims as baseless and fake.
According to Akpabio, the reports falsely stated that the secret police had secured all entrances to the assembly’s complex on Tuesday.
From the senate floor, Akpabio dismissed the allegations, labeling them “fake news.”

Akpabio jokingly suggested that those spreading these reports were motivated by website traffic and potential revenue.
“[They said DSS] has surrounded the national assembly to possibly stop the impeachment of principal officers,” he said.
Akpabio expressed amusement at the situation, questioning which committee should investigate the matter.
“I understand that they are being paid if they have a lot of traffic, but I hope the public is aware that this is total fake news.”
Akpabio assigned the special duties committee to look into the matter and report back promptly.
