APC secures two-third majority in House of Reps as six opposition lawmakers defect
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has solidified its dominance in the House of Representatives, securing a two-thirds majority following the defection of six opposition lawmakers during Thursday’s plenary session.
Five members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the South East and one member of the Labour Party (LP) from Plateau State formally announced their switch to the ruling party, citing unresolved leadership crises within their former parties.
The defectors include Daniel Asama Ado (Plateau), Chidi Mark Obetta (Enugu), Phillips Anayo Owuegbu (Enugu), Nnaji Nnolim (Enugu), Denis Agbo (Enugu), and Matthew Nwogu (Imo). Their defection raises the APC’s tally in the House to 242 members, while the PDP now holds 74 seats.
