JUST IN: APC sweeps Kaduna council polls, wins all 23 LGAs

The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kaduna State’s council elections held on Saturday.

Hajara Muhammad, Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) chairperson, announced the election results.

“The electoral officers and returning officers have filed their reports, and at the end of the exercise, the 23 local government returning officers and 255 ward returning officers have declared results in the respective constituencies and submitted their results in accordance with the law and alongside the electoral officers,” Muhammad said.

“The electoral officers have submitted their reports, and the 23 local government returning officers and 255 ward returning officers declared results as stipulated by law,” remains unchanged.

Muhammad confirmed the results, stating, “By the power vested on the commission, I hereby wish to confirm that the results earlier collected and returned by the returning officers.

This confirmation asserts the APC’s victory in all 23 chairperson and 255 councillorship positions across Kaduna State.

Ahead of the polls, the Kaduna House of Assembly denied allegations of plans to amend the state’s Local Government Electoral Law.

Edward Masha, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chair in Kaduna, expressed concerns over the election’s credibility and questioned potential law amendments.

Masha alleged the assembly sought to alter provisions related to result declarations and collation officer appointments.

The PDP vowed to oppose any attempts to undermine the electoral process.

Henry Marah, House Committee on Information chair, dismissed the allegations, stating no such amendments were listed on the assembly’s October 9 order paper.

Marah clarified that pre-recess adjustments to the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) laws addressed logistical issues with electronic voting.

The amended law allows result collation and announcement at designated locations “if security concerns arise.”
