Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has ordered the release of the female soldier who got engaged to a corps member at the Yikpata Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kwara State.
It was gathered that the Army Chief ordered her release with immediate effect in the spirit of the Yuletide.
Yahaya admonished the female soldier to obey the ethics of the profession and shun indiscipline.
The male corps member proposed to the female soldier identified as Private Sofiyat Akinlabi some weeks back.
This had generated an outrage, with human rights lawyer, accusing the army of violating the rights of the detained soldier.
Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, could not be immediately reached for comments.
