The Osun State Governorahip Election Petitions Tribunal on Friday declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the July 17, 2022 governorship election in the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, as the winner.

The tribunal declared the declaration of Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission as null and void on the grounds of over-voting.

In a split document of two to one declared, the tribunal directed INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke and give the same to former Governor Oyetola.

The majority judgement which was read by the Chairman, Justice Tertse Kume, said Oyetola scored the majority lawful votes of 314,931 against Adeleke’s 219,666.

A minority decision by one of the judges is being read as of the time of filing this report.
