There was confusion in Ebonyi State on Wednesday as reports spread that hoodlums had set ablaze a high court in the Owutu-Edda area of the state.
Registrar of the court, Oluchi Uduma, confirmed the incident to journalists in Owutu-Edda.
She said the hoodlums invaded the court on Tuesday and set the building ablaze.
Uduma explained that the court building, documents, and other valuables were completely burnt.
Chairman of Afikpo South LGA, Chima Nkama, also confirmed the incident, adding that the matter had been reported to the police.
In December 2022, the magistrate court in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, was razed by gunmen.
The incident occurred hours after the high court in the Orlu LGA of Imo was set ablaze.
The burning of courts in the South-East geopolitical zone is the latest in the series of violent acts perpetrated by non-state actors.
