At least 15 persons, including four children, were pulled from the rubble of a collapsed two-storey building in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State in the early hours of Monday.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident, which occurred around 12:20 a.m. at 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop by UBA Bank. According to the Controller General of the service, Margaret Adeseye, a distress call was received and the Sari Iganmu Fire Station responded swiftly, arriving at the scene within nine minutes.

Adeseye revealed that the building had previously been marked as distressed, but occupants reportedly ignored evacuation warnings before it gave way.

Among those rescued were seven male adults, four female adults, and four children, all of whom sustained varying degrees of injuries. They were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute Meta and the General Hospital in Odan, Lagos Island, for treatment.

Emergency responders continued to comb the debris for any additional victims as investigations into the cause of the collapse commenced.
