The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has declared the suspended head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), DCP Abba Kyari, wanted over alleged drug offences.
Spokesperson for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, said this during a press briefing in Abuja.
The NDLEA said investigation had revealed that Kyari is a member of a drug syndicate operating across the globe.
Indeed, he was accused of being one of the leaders of a cartel of drug barons operating the Brazil, Singapore network.
He was linked with several instances of interventions to free arrested cocaine and heroine suspects with US dollars and compromise seized hard drugs among NDLEA operatives.
In July 2019, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had revealed how Kyari allegedly collaborated with Hushpuppi, a self-confessed international fraudster, to jail one of the latter’s associates, “after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on Qatari business people”.
The suspended police officer had, however, denied the allegation, claiming that his “hands are clean”.
In August 2021, Usman Baba, inspector-general of police, received the report of a panel set up to probe the bribery allegation against Kyari.
