Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has put the country in the world map of cooking.

The 27-year-old psychology graduate on Monday morning broke the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”.

The chef smashed the 87 hours 45 minutes record set by Lata Tondon.

Hilda went into the competition on Thursday at 4pm.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos on Sunday visited Hilda to cheer her on.

She was thrilled to be paid a visit by the governor on Sunday afternoon at Amore Gardens, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

“I showed up to support Chef Hilda Baci, in her quest to break the Guinness World Record @GWR for the longest time spent cooking by an individual,” Sanwo-Olu tweeted.

“Her dedication, passion for cooking as well as her desire to put our rich culture on the map by not only exhibiting our food but also the resilience, determination, energy and team spirit that has come to be known as the spirit of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is truly remarkable.”

Hilda carries on despite having broken the record as she aims to cook for 96 hours, setting a new world record as the first human on earth to spend such an amount of time cooking.

She continues to receive support from government officials, celebrities, clerics, and other well-meaning Nigerians.

Nigerians stood by her despite a heavy downpour in the wee hours of Monday.
