JUST-IN: Osun monarch Oba Aromolaran takes a bow after 42-year reign, palace confirms
Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, has been confirmed dead at the age of 87.
The news came in a short tribute issued by the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Olayinka Fasuyi on Thursday.
He disclosed that the monarch joined his ancestors on Wednesday after a brief illness.
Oba Adekunle ascended the throne on February 20, 1982, from the Aromolaran family, and reigned for 42 years.
Security operatives are said to be stationed in the palace, including operatives of the Department of State Services.

Meanwhile, a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, whose wife Titi is from Ilesa in Osun State, has expressed sadness over the demise of Oba Aromolaran.
He praised the late monarch as a fatherly figure and a symbol of the courage, boldness, and discipline of the Ijesha people.
Atiku posted this on X, sharing his statement alongside a photo featuring himself, the late monarch, and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
He wrote, “With a heavy heart, I received the news of the passing of the Owa Obokun of Ijesha land, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran.
“The late Owa was more than a father-in-law to me. Each time I visited him, he accorded me the homecoming welcome of a son. We all loved him dearly.”
