The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of eight Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIG), alongside the elevation of 676 other senior officers to higher positions.

This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations for the PSC.

The newly promoted AIGs include Benneth Igwe, Suleiman Abdul, Augustina Ogbodo, Stephen Olanrewaju, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayoade Mustapha, Adegboyega Adegboye, and Mohammed Labbo.

Additionally, the commission elevated 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) to the rank of CP, while 52 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP).

The promotion process for the CPs and DCPs involved a rigorous assessment and examination, which has now become a mandatory criterion for advancing to higher ranks.

These decisions were made during the first Plenary Meeting of the commission’s new Board, chaired by Mr. Hashimu Argungu.

Argungu emphasized the importance of continuous self-improvement for the newly promoted officers, urging them to engage in regular learning to meet the demands of modern policing in the 21st century.

He further stated that moving forward, police officers will be required to pass formal examinations before being considered for promotions, in line with civil service rules that mandate such assessments.

The PSC Chairman reiterated that promotions within the police force would remain based on merit and that deserving officers would receive timely recognition, provided they meet the necessary requirements.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, Argungu called for renewed commitment and focus in the fight against insurgency and banditry across the nation, underscoring the promotion as a call to greater service to the country.
