JUST IN: Senate holds executive session over FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe/Wike dispute
The Senate on Wednesday held an executive session to address a matter of privilege involving Ireti Kingibe, the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This follows a public dispute between the senator and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The dispute between the two officials escalated on Monday when Wike threatened that Kingibe would not secure a re-election to the Senate in 2027 if he remained the FCT Minister.
Senator Kingibe accused Wike of completely excluding her from the governance of the FCT.

Before the Senate’s end-of-session break, Kingibe had raised a matter of privilege, questioning why the 2024 FCT budget was approved without her input.
The public exchange between Wike and Kingibe prompted the Senate to convene the executive session to discuss her concerns.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio presided over the proceedings.
He emphasized that the executive session was specifically convened to address the matter of privilege raised by the FCT senator.
