Gunmen in the early hours of Monday attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters along Owerri-Port Harcourt road in Imo State with grenades.
They also engaged the police on duty at the INEV office in a gun battle, leaving three of the gunmen wearing charms and Biafra camouflages dead.
The Nation quoted INEC Public Relations Officer, Dr Chinenye Chijioke-Osuji, as confirming the attack.
The gunmen said to have thrown grenades through the INEC office fence destroyed several offices and vehicles parked on the premises.
The attack made it the eighth of such incident visited on the commission’s facilities by armed persons within the last four months.
Last week Sunday, there was an attack on the office of INEC in the Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State.
The attack on Oru West office occurred three days after another INEC office was attacked in the Orlu Local Government Area of the same state.
