The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has said its men were responsible for the attack on Kuje prison in Abuja.
Some terrorists invaded the prison on Tuesday night and released over 800 inmates, including high-profile suspects.
President Muhammadu Buhari expressed anger at the security lapses at the place during his visit to the prison on Wednesday, saying he was disappointed with security system.
In a footage on Wednesday night, the terrorist group showed some of its men shooting their way into the prison facility.
Many fighters were seen marching in groups while vehicles and building were on fire in the 38-second video.
Daily Trust reports an elderly man dressed in a native attire as joining the young men who were shouting on top of their voices.
The Islamic State’s A’maq Agency released the video with a caption written in Arabic, stating, “Fighters of Islamic State attacked Kuje prison in Abuja yesterday and succeeded in freeing dozens of prisoners.”
