Kaduna Church Abductions: Gunmen Set Motorcycle Condition for Victims’ Release
Suspected kidnappers holding 177 abductees in Kaduna State have reportedly demanded the return of 17 motorcycles as a condition for releasing the victims, most of whom were seized during coordinated attacks on churches in the Kajuru Local Government Area.
The abductees were taken from multiple places of worship during Sunday services, triggering panic and displacement in affected communities. Local leaders say the gunmen claimed the motorcycles were lost during recent security operations, insisting they must be recovered and returned before any hostages are freed.

The unusual demand has compounded fears for the safety of the victims, many of whom are women, children and elderly worshippers. Residents say they are unable to meet the demand, as the whereabouts of the motorcycles remain unknown.
Following initial confusion over the incident, security agencies have since confirmed the mass abduction and intensified search-and-rescue operations across the area. The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the deployment of tactical and intelligence units to track the kidnappers and secure the release of the captives.
Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other community leaders have condemned the attacks, calling for urgent and decisive action to address worsening insecurity in Kaduna and the wider North-West. Families of the abducted worshippers continue to appeal to authorities to ensure their loved ones return home safely.
