Kaduna rep dumps PDP for APC
Rep. Daniel Amos, who represents the Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing developmental strides and internal party conflicts as key reasons for his decision.
Amos, who chairs the House Committee on Services, made the announcement on Friday in Kafanchan, shortly after submitting his resignation letter to the PDP. Addressing journalists, the lawmaker said his move to the ruling APC was driven by a desire to align with the federal government and attract more development to his constituency.
“President Bola Tinubu has shown from day one that he is a true leader who recognises us as a people,” Amos said. “He has given us the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia and the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, which made our decision an easy one.”
He added that the gesture from the presidency signals greater opportunities for Southern Kaduna if the region supports Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 elections.
Defection Rooted in Party Crisis and Grassroots Support
Amos also pointed to the ongoing crisis within the PDP as a contributing factor to his defection. He said the decision followed extensive consultations with his constituents, who endorsed the move in hopes of securing better representation and resources.

“We looked at the crisis in the PDP and decided to look for an alternative platform in the interest of our people,” he said. “I can confirm that we have gotten the agreement of our people to move to the APC so we can better their lives.”
He described the decision as “divine,” expressing confidence that it would be celebrated in the future as a turning point for the region.
Assurances and Formal Reception
Amos confirmed that he received assurances from APC leaders that Southern Kaduna would receive its fair share of resources at both the state and federal levels.
He reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising the welfare of his constituents above political interests.
Amos, along with other prominent PDP defectors from Southern Kaduna, is expected to be formally welcomed into the APC at a grand ceremony in Kafanchan on Saturday. The event will be attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajjudeen Abbas.
