Bandits on Monday reportedly set ablaze an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) in Kimbi village, Randagi Ward, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The burning of the special purpose vehicle said to belong to the police has made many of the villagers to flee the community as fear spreads of a possible clash ahead between the police and the bandits.
A community leader in the area, Alhaji Yahaya Kimbi, claimed that the bandits invaded the community early Monday and attacked the APC.
Kimbi told reporters that bandits, numbering about eight, stormed the village with AK 47 rifles and carried out the attack.
He said, “The attack happened on Monday morning around 1am and in the process, the hoodlums burnt the vehicle to ashes.
“However, the bandits did not kill or kidnap anyone during the attack. I think their only target was to destroy the Armoured Personnel Vehicle.”
As at the time of filing the report, it was gathered that many people had fled the village for fear of being attacked.
But the community leader said security agencies had visited the scene to take stock of the damage as a result of the attack, adding that some residents were going about their daily activities.
Kaduna State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muhammad Jelige, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said, he would make contact with the area and get back to our correspondent.
