Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin
A coalition of serving and former members of the Kano State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin as a preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Kano State.
The lawmakers, representing Assemblies dating back to 1999, visited the Deputy Senate President in a courtesy call led by former Speaker Abdulaziz G. Gafasa. According to a statement from Barau’s media team, the group described him as “the most marketable candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.”

Although Senator Barau has not formally announced his intention to contest, his name continues to dominate discussions within the APC in Kano, with party stakeholders citing his extensive experience in the National Assembly as a key strength.
During the visit, former Speaker Gafasa praised Barau’s influence across all zones of Kano and highlighted his consistent contributions to the welfare of both party members and residents, irrespective of political differences.
Serving lawmaker Garba Yau Gwarmai of Ghari/Tsanyawa constituency pledged to mobilise grassroots support for Barau, emphasizing that the endorsement reflects his “track record of outstanding service over the years.”
In response, Senator Barau thanked the lawmakers for their support and urged unity within the APC. He stressed the importance of rebuilding Kano and restoring the state to its “glorious days” through teamwork, sacrifice, and a collective commitment to the party’s agenda and President Bola Tinubu’s vision.
