Kano Tragedy: Gov Yusuf Gifts House, Hajj and Umrah to Bereaved Father

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved a special welfare package, including a new house and full Hajj and Umrah sponsorship, for the father of a woman and her six children brutally murdered in the Chiranci Dorayi area of Kano State, in a move aimed at easing the trauma of the devastating loss.

Governor Yusuf announced the intervention during a condolence visit to the bereaved family, describing the killings as heart-wrenching and a tragedy that shook not only Kano but the entire country. He said the state government would stand firmly with the survivor to help him rebuild his life after the incident.

Under the approved package, the Kano State Government will provide the bereaved father with a befitting residential house, cover all expenses for his Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, and extend continuous welfare support, including assistance if he chooses to remarry. The governor noted that the gesture was part of the government’s responsibility to support victims of violent crimes and promote compassion and justice.

Governor Yusuf also directed the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to fast-track the prosecution of suspects arrested in connection with the killings, vowing that anyone found guilty would face the full weight of the law, including the possibility of capital punishment where applicable.

The killings, which occurred in January, sparked widespread outrage across Kano and beyond, renewing public calls for stronger security measures and swift justice. Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), have since arrested suspects and assured residents of continued efforts to prevent similar tragedies.

In an emotional gesture, the bereaved father reportedly donated his former residence to the Kano State Government for conversion into an Islamiyya school, expressing hope that something meaningful would emerge from the tragedy for the benefit of the community.

The governor commended security agencies for their prompt response and reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives, supporting victims, and ensuring justice for crimes committed in the state.
