Kastina woman gets N500,000 reward for returning school feeding funds
On Tuesday, December 17, Malama Abdulkadir-Yanmama was rewarded with N500,000 by the Katsina State government for her honesty in returning N748,320 meant for the Federal Government’s Home Grown School Feeding programme.
The funds were mistakenly deposited into Abdulkadir-Yanmama’s bank account under the narration of the school feeding programme. Upon realizing the error, she promptly returned the money to the state government.
Mudassir Nasir, the Executive Director of the Katsina State Social Investment Programme Agency, presented the reward to Abdulkadir-Yanmama, acknowledging her integrity.
He explained that the money was originally intended for payment to vendors providing services for the school feeding programme.
The state government commended her for her honesty and commitment to doing the right thing.

He said, “She told us that she received an alert with a narration titled payment for vendors who were providing primary school pupils with free food.
“The woman decided to come to our office because she was not on the register for vendors who provide food for our pupils and she was not part of such a programme.
“We requested for her bank statement and the office of the auditor-general verified that she was telling the truth,” Nasir noted.
He further stated that the governor of the state, Dikko Radda, directed that the woman should be rewarded for her honesty and show of integrity.
In addition to N500,000 reward, the woman was also handed a commendation letter from the State government. She was offered to participate in the next school feeding programme.
In her response, Abdulkadir-Yanmama said, “I knew that I had to return the money because it doesn’t belong to me.”
She also appreciated the governor and the management of the school feeding programme for the support and encouragement given to her.
