Hon. Aminu Dan Hamidu
Katsina LG chairman dies just weeks into office
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the newly elected Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area in Katsina State, Hon. Aminu Dan Hamidu, has passed away less than two months after taking office.
Hamidu assumed the role in April 2025, following the February local government elections. His tenure, filled with hope and ambition for positive change, was tragically cut short when he died on Monday, June 9, 2025.
Although the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed, sources suggest he had been quietly battling a health condition in recent weeks.
The Katsina State Government confirmed the sad news through an official statement released by Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
Governor Radda expressed profound grief over Hamidu’s passing, describing him as “a loyal party man, a seasoned civil servant, and a grassroots politician who devoted his life to public service with honesty, humility, and uncommon dedication.”

The statement read in part, “Today, Katsina has lost one of its most committed and selfless sons. Hon. Hamidu was a quiet achiever who believed in the values of integrity, transparency, and people-first leadership. His death is a painful loss, not only to Bakori but to the entire state.”
Despite his brief tenure, the governor said Hamidu left a legacy of purposeful leadership and a sincere commitment to community development.
He noted that Hamidu’s years of service at various levels of government were defined by hard work and a deep sense of responsibility toward the people.
“He was not someone who sought the spotlight. He let his work speak for him,” the governor remarked.
“Even in a short period, he showed what leadership could mean when rooted in sincerity,” Governor Radda said.
On behalf of the government and people of the state, Governor Radda extended heartfelt condolences to Hamidu’s family, the people of Bakori, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi,” the governor prayed.
He pledged that the government will continue to remember the deceased for his modesty, dedication, and the love he had for his people.
