The Katsina State government said the Federal Government has approved N50b loan to the state to enable it finance some major projects in the state.
The State Commissioner of Budget, Alhaji Faruk Jobe, who made the disclosure during 2021 citizens budget sensitisation workshop held at Old Government House, Katsina, said the loan which is part of the 2021 budget, will be used to complete on-going projects and embark on new ones.
He said, “The on-going projects include Green Economic Zone, Ajiwa Waterworks, road projects, the rehabilitation of general hospitals, among others.
“Part of the loan will be used to construct under-by pass project at Kofar Kaura and Kofar Kwaya junction.”
“We experienced a shortfall of money from the federation account and internally generated revenue to finance 2021 budget.
“The N50billion will assist us to complete some on-going major projects and take-off of new ones before the end of this year. Without this loan, we cannot finance our budget.”
The commissioner insisted that securing the loan was necessary and appealed to people of the state to ensure prompt payment of their taxes, to assist government in providing social amenities.
Earlier, a member representing Charanchi Local Government, Isah Lawal Kuraye said the house will closely monitor the utilisation of the loan by the government.
