At least 13 people died on Thursday night in a truck accident that occurred on Kaita/Dankama Highway, Katsina State, with about 70 others seriously injured.
About 70 sheep were also reportedly killed in the accident.
Majority of the passengers inside the truck were said to be coming from the neighbouring Niger Republic.
Those that sustained injuries were rushed to three different hospitals. They are the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina General Hhospital and Amadi Rimi Orthopaedic Hospital, all in Katsina.
The Katsina State Government sent a delegation to attend mass funeral prayers and for the deceased at Dantakum graveyard in Katsina metropolis.
The delegation included Commissioner for Local Governments, Alhaji Ya’u -Umar Gwajo-Gwajo and Commissioner for Sports and Social Development, Alhaji Sani Danlami, as well as Governor Aminu Masari’s Senior Special Assistant on Restoration, Alhaji Sabo Musa, and Head of Kaita Local Government Administration.
The delegation also visited the injured at the hospitals.
Reaction from the spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, Gambo Isah, was still being expected as of noon Friday.
