The schoolgirls kidnapped last week from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in the Talatu-Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State have finally been released.
Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, on Tuesday morning announced the release of the schoolgirls by their abductors.
A total of 317 schoolgirls were kidnapped from their school in the early hours of last Friday.
There were speculations at the weekend that the girls had been released but the Zamfara State Government dismissed the report as a mere rumour.
Metawalle twitted around 6.30am Tuesday that the girls had regained their freedom, saying, “Alhamdulillah! It gladdens my heart to announce the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe from captivity. This follows the scaling of several hurdles laid against our efforts. I enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to rejoice with us as our daughters are now safe.”
The attack and abduction in the GGSS Jangebe happened just few days after 27 schoolboys were kidnapped from Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State.
Last December, students of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State were also abducted and released a few days later.
