Kirk Murder: U.S threatens to revoke visas of foreigners glorifying violence

The U.S. government has threatened to revoke the visas of foreigners, including Nigerians, who celebrate the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist shot dead at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau, in a post on X on Thursday, said foreign nationals who glorify violence are not welcome in the U.S.

Mr Landau added that he had informed the consular office to revoke visas of those caught celebrating Mr Kirk’s assassination.

“I have been disgusted to see some on social media praising, rationalising, or making light of the event and have directed our consular officials to undertake appropriate action,” Mr Landau said.

Citing the shooting incident, Mr Landau said, “In light of yesterday’s horrific assassination of a leading political figure, I want to underscore that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country.”

Mr Landau added, “Please feel free to bring such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the @StateDept can protect the American people.”

President Donald Trump, who announced on Thursday that he will be awarding Mr Kirk a posthumous presidential medal, said on Friday that the suspected shooter of the conservative activist had been arrested.

The arrest of the suspected shooter comes about 48 hours after the incident at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
