Kwankwaso not defecting to APC – NNPP
The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dismissed reports suggesting that its national leader and former presidential candidate, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing the media on Tuesday, the NNPP chairman in Kano, Alhaji Hashim Sulaiman Dugunrawa, described the rumour as unfounded, but welcomed the speculation as a reflection of Kwankwaso’s enduring political influence.
“We are happy that people are spreading it. It only shows how politically relevant Senator Kwankwaso remains,” Dugunrawa said.
He added that Kwankwaso is widely regarded as a man of honour and integrity, not someone associated with corruption or political irrelevance.

“People believe and are convinced that he is neither a thief nor a fraudster nor a political deadwood, but a person highly blessed with integrity and a focused politician,” he said.
Dugunrawa acknowledged the historical political ties between Kwankwaso and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the two have walked similar political paths over the years.
“As you will recall, they were both governors at the same time. They were also lawmakers and great personalities who governed two reputable states in the country,” he said.
He reiterated that there is no official move by Kwankwaso to defect to the APC and urged the public to treat the reports as mere speculation.
“The plan of the former presidential candidate of the NNPP to defect is just a rumour. Personally, I cannot base anything on speculation,” Dugunrawa stated.
