Kwara Church Kidnapping: 38 abducted worshippers regain freedom after five days
Thirty-eight members of the congregation abducted by bandits during a Thanksgiving service at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-Isegun, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have regained their freedom after five days in captivity.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed their release in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaiye. While the state government attributed the rescue to the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and various security agencies, details of the operation remained unclear at the time of reporting.

According to the statement, the victims were freed on November 23 following sustained efforts by security operatives and government officials. Governor AbdulRazaq described the development as the result of President Tinubu’s “hands-on approach,” noting that the president cancelled his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to focus on security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States.
The governor also commended the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency for their roles in the rescue. He noted that four new tactical police teams were deployed to Kwara on the president’s directive.
Governor AbdulRazaq extended gratitude to security personnel, community leaders, religious bodies, and citizens of Kwara for their support throughout the ordeal.
