Labour Party factional chairman, Julius Abure, attacked at airport
There was mild drama at the weekend when the Labour Party factional chairman Julius Abure was attacked at the Benin Airport, Edo State.
National Publicity Secretary of Abure’s faction, Obiora Ifoh, confirmed that the incident occurred on Friday, alleging that the chairman was physically assaulted by a woman identified as “Mama P.”
The confrontation reportedly began at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where the woman confronted Abure in the boarding queue for a Max Air flight to Benin. According to Ifoh, the altercation persisted throughout the flight, despite repeated efforts by flight attendants to restore calm.
Upon landing in Benin, the situation intensified until security personnel intervened. Abure was quickly escorted away, while the suspect was handed over to the police.

In a statement, Ifoh described the woman as a content creator linked to a “known political family.”
He further alleged that she had bragged in a video about being untouchable due to her ties within the police force.
She was quoted as saying she would continue to target Abure and other party leaders because “you have killed Labour Party and you are the reason why Obi is no longer in the Labour Party.”
Reacting to the incident, Ifoh said: “The leadership of the Labour Party is completely troubled with this cyber bullying and the consequences of the action of this political agent on the party. We are by this statement calling on the Inspector General of Police to thoroughly investigate this suicidal aggression against the leadership of the Labour Party and Barrister Julius Abure in particular.”
He also described the assault as part of a wider effort by “anti-democratic forces” to destabilise the party.
While urging members to remain calm, Ifoh stressed that both assault and cyberbullying are “serious crimes under Nigerian law,” and called for a thorough investigation.
