Lagos announces 15-month traffic diversion over Mile 2 Interchange construction

The Lagos State Government has announced a 15-month traffic diversion at the Mile 2 area as it begins construction on a new Transport Interchange Terminal.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, revealed in a statement on Sunday that the diversion aims to enhance the integration of multiple transport modes, including rail, bus, water, and non-motorized transport options.

According to Osiyemi, the traffic diversion will take effect from November 11, 2024, and is expected to continue through February 16, 2026. He urged motorists to consider alternative routes during this period to ease congestion.

“Motorists heading to Oshodi from Apapa will have a through traffic and vice versa,” he explained. “Motorists traveling from Apapa to Badagry should proceed on the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, turn onto Akinwande Road, connect with Coker, and access the Lagos–Badagry Expressway to continue their journey.”

Additionally, he noted, “Motorists heading to Lagos from Badagry will also have a through traffic and vice versa. Those heading toward Apapa will be diverted onto Durban Road to connect with Amuwo Odofin Estate and join the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway to proceed.”

Osiyemi assured that directional signage will be placed along diversion routes to guide motorists. Traffic officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will also be stationed to facilitate the smooth flow of vehicles.

He urged the public to cooperate with these traffic adjustments, which are part of the overall management plan for the Transport Interchange Terminal project overseen by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority.

“Motorists are implored to be patient as the closure is part of the traffic management plans for the construction of the Transport Interchange Terminal project by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority,” he said.
